I first heard this song towards the end of the recording process for this project. It was written by Sam and Joe Hunter. Sam played guitar and bass and a whole bunch of other stuff on this album. From the first listen, it brought tears to my eyes. This a universally relatable lyric and, as a new Christmas song, it feels like a song that could be around for years. To me, this song embodies all the trademarks of the best-known songs for this season: family, friends, love, positivity, and a melody that you can’t shake.
lyrics
Hello, my friends, glad to see you all again
Christmas comes sooner each year
I’m the first to admit, sometimes I forget
How lucky we are to be here
Let’s make this a Christmas to remember
Gather round the tree, share a memory or two
And join your host and toast our time together
Watch the fire glow, reminisce the whole night through
Here’s to your familiar faces, ones I hold so dear
And here’s to all the empty places, set for those we wish were here
And no one knows where we’ll be next December
So let’s make this a Christmas to remember
I’m the first to admit, sometimes I forget
How lucky we are to be here
No one knows where we’ll be next December
So let’s make this a Christmas to remember
